I’m Karen Naess, a photographer based in Elgin, Illinois, with a deep love for capturing the moments that matter most. Whether it’s a quiet glance between newlyweds, a family’s laughter echoing through a park, or the proud smile of an athlete mid-game—I believe every image holds a story worth preserving.

Photography, to me, is about more than just taking pictures. It’s about freezing time—capturing the emotions, the energy, and the connection that make life so meaningful. I’ve been fortunate to serve as the team photographer for the Chicago Hounds and Chicago Steel hockey teams, and to work with organizations like the Kane County Cougars. Today, I continue my journey as a freelance photographer for Shaw Media, telling visual stories across communities and generations.

But some of my favorite work happens in life’s most personal moments—weddings, family gatherings, milestone events, and professional portraits. These are the memories that become heirlooms, the images that bring people together long after the moment has passed.
